Place an additional slide after the title slide that provides a definition of what a Business Franchise is?
When you begin searching for this information you may want to search for Franchise cost, top 500 popular franchises, etc...You may be able to find all the information from their corporate website but you may have to look other places as well.

Rank them from the most expensive to least expensive in your presentation. Again, I will not tell you how to present this information. You can use Google slides, create a table that will compare all of the information, or use power point. If you choose to use Power Point make sure that you are saving you file and uploading it to your drive every day and downloading it back into power point each day.  Make it professional and neat before you submit it for grading.

Freakin Easy 100 Friday

I have noticed that the wall outside our classroom has been lacking in Christmas Spirit.  So today to earn a freakin easy 100 using the Paint program on your computer you are to draw something that reminds you of this season.  It can be a tree, and ornament, Menorah, Santa, Rudolph, a house with lights on it, etc....whatever reminds you in your way of this season.  The only catch is that for it to be printed and hung on the wall outside our classroom you MUST be proud enough to put your name in there somewhere.  Save the file as a .jpeg file (christmas_your name) and upload it to your drive and turn it in to our Google Classroom.  If you give some effort you will recieve a freakin easy 100, if not you will recieve a circular grade.

Also if you have not completed ANY assignment for this six weeks today would be a great day to do that and receive some credit for it and not the big fat zero that you have now.

Welcome back Monday.

Your mission is to create a Powerpoint or Google slides that tells the story of your Thanksgiving break without using any words.  Your document must include at least 10 pictures or graphics that tell what you did during your break.  It would be nice if they went in  the order the events took place but it is not mandatory.  The only slide that may have words on it is the Title slide.  I would think that you can do this is no more than 4 slides including the title slide.  Be creative and tell a picture story of your break.

Today you will begin to create a 3 Column Brochure about yourself.  You will use Microsoft Word again to complete this task.  That means you will have to save your file and then upload it into your drive and then download it to put it back into Word format the next day.

This Brochure will tell about 3 things in your life.  It can be School, Work, and Play, or Childhood, Teen years, and Future, etc....I think you get the point.  The instructions for this assignment are at your station.

Today you need to complete the basic formatting exercise for Microsoft Word and turn it in on classroom.

To download your file from your drive back to a Word document you will right click on your file in drive and choose dowload file.  It will then put a tab on the bottom left of your computer screen, double click on that tab and it should open your file again as a Word document.  When you complete it you will need to save it and upload it to your drive like yesterday and then turn it in.

Some of you guys have not completed, printed out, or turned in your calendar/class schedule table assignments yet either.  DO THESE ASSIGNMENTS, THERE ARE 3 DAYS LEFT THIS SIX WEEKS!

Remember, sometimes you are the windshield sometimes you are the bug.....

Tuesday, November 8, 2016

Today we will begin an editing assignment using Microsoft Word and not Google Docs.  I have sent you a powerpoint in google classroom with some notes on basic formatting that you can use as well.  We will go over some of the functions you can do using the Home and Insert tabs in class before you begin the assingment.  Some of the functions we will look at are how to change the case of letters and sentences, alignments, bullets, line spacing, and sorting.  Using the Insert tab we will look at headers/footers, page breaks, date/time, and symbols you can insert.

The assignment is at your station, set your document to no spacing before you begin and then follow each of the instructions to complete the assignment and turn it in to the assignment created on Google classroom.

Today you will practice typing again.  You will type Practice Prompt #1, which should be at your station.  Open up a Google Doc, insert a HEADER which is right aligned and includes your name, class period and date.  Then type the document just as it appears on the page. Capitalization and punctuation, and spelling will be graded.

Next you will insert a page break after the last sentence you typed (this will give you a second page) then copy and past the entire document onto a second page (not a new document).  If you inserted a header you will see you name and info in top right corner of page.  Here you will change the following formats:

Turn in your updated resume and reference page to the assignment in your Google Classroom. It is due today period.

When you have completed that assignment I want you to pick a partner for you next assignment.  No more than 2 people.  You make work by yourself if you want to as well.  When you have pick your working partner let me know and I will give you your time period for the next project, which is historical technology research.

Each group will be given a 20 year time period to research.  You will find eight (8) different technological advances during this time period.  They can come from anywhere in the world not just the United States.  You will then create a 10 slide presentation of your findings.  Things to include in project:

10 slides minimum (Title slide, 8 advancement slides, and a citation page)
where was it invented?
who invented it?
how did it impact the world?
include pictures, etc
use at least 3 different sources
create a citation page using the proper/correct webpage citations from the notes that are still in your classroom.
Title slide should be creative, show your time period and have your names on it.

You will present these to the class next week.

Today you will edit and make changes to your resume draft.  I made suggestions on everyone's resumes that turned one in.  I want you to edit yours and fix some of the things that are suggested.  this will be your final draft and it will count as a test grade this time when we turn it in.  This one needs to be as neat as you can do one, check your formatting, spacing, alignment, and of course spelling.  Remember cities, states, street names, etc... are all capitalized.  Your resume should all fit on one page I would think.  Set your spacing for single spacing and this will help some of you.

We will add a second page.  This page will be your reference page.  I have been reminding you for 2 weeks to get 3 people that you think would be excellent references for you and get their address, phone, email....  This page is very simple you will set your spacing for single spacing and center the word References at the top of the page and then left align and put your three references like this:

References

Herman Munster
1313 Mockingbird Lane
Scarytown, TX 77777
555-555-5555
hmunster@biggreenhead.com

next one

next one

and that will be your reference page.  Don't do anything fance on this page, but it does need to match your resume style as far as font goes.  Use the same style on this page.

This will be due tomorrow!!!!!

Friday, October 14, 2016

Today you need to make sure that you have turned in ALL ASSIGNMENTS that are due.  If you have any assignment that you have not done, besides the resume draft (too late for that one), then get them finished and submitted on classroom.

If you have completed all assignment then I want you to complete lesson 17 on www.freetypinggame.net with the goal set at 30 wpm.  Then go back and do lessons 1-4 with your target goal set at 35 wpm.  Use the home keys and do not type with one or two fingers.  Try and get better at typing.

It is Friday, Life is Good, 8 weeks of school already gone.  Have a great weekend, make good decisons, and influence someone in a positive way.

Wednesday, October 12, 2016

Today you should be finishing up your three letters of inquiry.  Once you have completed the first letter you may open a new Doc and copy and paste your first letter into the second page.  You may then change the company name, address, and edit the content of your letter without having to completely retype the entire thing.  I will allow you to do this because this is something you wrote and note just copying and pasting from a webpage.  Make sure and check your formatting because much of your grade will be about formatting your letters according to the directions given to you on Monday.  There is an assignment posted in your Google Classroom where you will turn in all 3 letters.  Open the assignment and then add all 3 of your letters before turning it in.

Some of you guys/girls are not doing much this six weeks and my patience is wearing pretty thin with extending time for you to do these assignments.  So far you should have turned in a Draft copy resume, a job search table, and now the 3 letters of inquiry.  Zeroes will be given after Friday for any of those assignments not turned in.

You also need to have your 3 references I have been reminding you about each day.  Tomorrow I will hand your resumes back and we will begin editing them for the final draft and we will add a reference page to them with your three references.  You need to get their address (street, city, state) and phone or email if you can, and what is there Title.

Letters of Inquiry

Today you will begin researching and typing your letters of inquiry using the three (3) jobs you were to have researched last week.  You need to do a Google search for "letters of inquiry samples"  this will pull up mutltiple websites with examples of what a letter of inquiry is and actual samples for you to look at or to use.

Assignment

You are to construct three letters of inquiry addressed to the jobs that you looked up last week.  You will need an address for that job for sure.  If there is not contact person you may address the letter to "To whom it may concern:".  You are to use THREE different letters samples.  DO NOT use the same letter for all three jobs.

Formatting instructions: (Using Google Docs)
Make your font Times New Roman 12 pt.
Make the line spacing to single space and double space between paragraphs. (Format/Line spacing)
Double space between your address, date line, company address, and who letter is to.
Quadruple space between sincerely and your name.  (hit return 4 times after sincerely)
Name your letters Job 1, Job 2, Job 3.  (click on untitled document and change name)

You may have to embelish (fib) a bit on these letters to fill them out with your accomplishments but that will be ok.  Make sure these are saved in your drive when you complete them.  If you create a folder called Coach Adair and put them in there they will be easy to find.

Wednesday, October 5, 2016

If you have not finished and turned in your first draft of your resume you must complete that ASAP and turn it in on Google Classroom.

Today's assignment is to do some job research.  Using a job search engine, you are to research 3 jobs that you think you might interest you in the future.  It can be in whatever city you like or you can research jobs in different cities.  You can use any of the following job search engines:

www.monster.com
www.ziprecruiter.com
www.careerbuilder.com
www.indeed.com
www.simplyhired.com

These are websites you can use but there are others as well and they are structured different and give different information, but they are very simple to use.  DO NOT apply for one of the jobs just get the info required.

The information we are looking for in the job specifications are:
City, State
Job title
Company name
Address
Contact person - this info may or may not be available
Salary
Qualifications - degrees, certifications, or experience required.  We need to find entry level positions.

You are then going to create a google doc which will show this information in a table format. Here are the instructions:
- INSERT a Header that includes your name, class period and date and right align it.
- Title the document Job Search.  Bold and center this information and make it 18pt.
- Create a a 4x8 table in your Doc.
- The column headings should be Job Specs, Job #1, Job #2, Job #3.  These should be centered at the top of each column.
- Then fill in the information that you found out about the 3 jobs you searched for to complete your table.

Continue working on your resume today.  When you complete the draft go to your google classroom and turn it in under the assignment posted there.  When you have completed and turned it in you have a bit of free time to play some games or listen to music quietly.

Today you will start typing your resumes.  I have placed a packet with sample resumes at each desk that also include a Reference sheet.  You can use the format of one of these samples or you can look at some samples that Google Docs has or you can open Microsoft Word and type in Resume in the search bar and it will bring up many samples as well.  If you choose to use microsoft word for yours you will have to save the file to the computer or a flash drive and then upload the file into your drive.  To do that simply open your drive and right click in a blank space and choose upload file and go to where you saved it and select it to upload.

Remember you want your resume to have style but not for it to be cute.  Play around with fonts and sizes that you like and different style bullets.  Make your resume sharp.  Remember not to use the word "I".  You will probably want to edit some of your responses from your workbook to include those action verbs that are listed before step five (one liners).  Remember to include clubs, activites, etc... that you have been involved in, whether it is in school or out of school (such as 4H, church activites, etc...).

You will also need to think of 3 people that you could use as a reference for you.  We will create a reference page to attached to our resumes.  These references need to be people that would tell your future employer what a great person you are and that they should hire you.  Examples would be Teachers, someone you have worked for before, Principals, Preachers, etc.....not your parents or other kin.  You will need to be able to get there address, phone number, email address etc...

If you have not completed your Resume Workbook then it NEEDS to be completed this period.  If you have completed yours then you need to go to www.freetypinggame.net and complete lessons 13-16 and set your target goal to 30 words per minute.  After our last typing exercise it is pretty obvious that we need to take some of these typing lessons seriously.  Do the lessons as they are supposed to be done and do not do them with one or two fingers.  After you have completed those four lessons, achieving the goal of 30 wpm, then you have some free time today.

5th-8th periods
Get this taken care of and I better recieve good reports from the substitute about your behavior in class.  Do what is expected of you.

Have a great weekend guys!

Thursday, September 29, 2016

Today you will complete Step 8 and Step 9 of the resume booklet.  This will take us to the end and we will be ready to actually type our resumes next week.  If you have not completed some of the earlier steps you need to complete them as well.

Step 8 is summarizing your key points.  These are just one sentence summaries of things you have done that might pertain to your job objective (the job you want).
Examples:
Proficient with Google Docs and other Microsoft software applications.
Completed Speech Communications class with a 95 avg.
Achieved high evaluations as a part time worker at Joe Blows Garage.
Bilingual speaker and can communicate effectively in Spanish and English.
Can provide exceptions references as to reliability and work ethic.

Step 9 is to Assemble your Resume.  Here you are just going to start filling in from what you have already done.  I think you will see that you will need to edit some of your answers, especially your step 5 one liners to include those actions verbs and maybe shorten some of them up.

Next week I will give you some sample resumes and we will look at some templates online of both chronological and functional resumes and probably make one of each.

Typing Wednesday

Today you will complete a typing exercise that is simply about following directions.  You are going to type the paper at your desk with the following directions:

create a header with your name, class period, and date and right justify it.
Title your paper Parenting Guidelines in Times new roman 18pt and bold and underline
Double space after Title.
Single space the document but double space between the paragraphs.
Use proper punctuation, 2 spaces after periods and 1 space after commas, etc.....

Tuesday, September 27. 2016

We are almost finished with our Resume Workbook, continue to keep up with where we are.  If you have not completed step 5 then you are behind schedule.

Today we need to move on to Steps 6-7, which are Work History and Education and Training.  Step 6 is Work History.  Read through the examples and create a list of your work history beginning with your most recent and going backwards.  This list should include any work that was done including volunteer work or work you were doing for yourself.  Include work even if your parents or other relatives were the "employer".  You will have to make this list on the very back page of the workbook because there is not a space for this.   Make it just like the examples provided for you.

Step 7 Education and Trainin is very self explanatory.  Read through the explanation page and instructions and then on page 18 complete your list of education and trainings that might apply.  Include as many school activities that you have participated in including clubs, sports, band, uil, etc...show that you are involved in many things.

Remember your work history and education and training do not have to pertain to the job objective at this point, we are making a list so that later we can produce a resume for you.

Monday, September 26, 2016

I hope you had a good weekend.  Today you need to work on steps 4 and 5 in your resume workbook.  Step 4 is to list your skills and abilities as related to the job objective you created.  Review all the skills and abilities you listed on pages 3-6 and choose the ones that are most related to your job objective (at least 4 but more or ok).  Look at the examples given to you on page 10.

Step 5 is then to create one-liners to demonstrate these skills and abilities using the action verbs provided for you on page 12.  Page 13 has the guidelines for creating these one liners and several examples.  Remember NEVER use the word "I" on your resume, begin with the action verb that describes what you accomplished.  Then on page 14 write several one-liners that pertain to the skills you listed in step 4 or from pages 3-6.

Continue on your Resume Workbook today.  You should finish Step 1, your self inventory, and continue on to Step 2, which is to select several jobs/careers you may be interested in and create a job objective.  Then move to Step 3 which is to research your chosen job/career and learn the requirements of that job, including and certifications required, education needed, any special skills required, or previous experience required.  Stop there if you complete the first three steps.

Resume building

Resume - a brief written account of personal, educational, and professional qualifications and experience, as that prepared by an applicant for a job.

Today we will begin our resume workbook and from this we will construct several resumes with different formats.  Answers the questions in this workbook honestly and sincerely and do not be immature with your answers.  This is your story not your friends, so answer the questions yourself as truthfully as you can so that we can build a base resume for you to have to add on in the future.  When we finish this section you will have the knowledge of how to form a good resume, what information to put on it and how to format it to get attention for future jobs you will be interested in.  We will also research jobs or careers you are interested in and construct letters of inquiry, cover letters, and follow up letters as well.

Today I want you to complete all of the questions in Step 1 of the Resume Workbook I am going to give you.  There are several questions in this step.  Remember answer them yourself and answer them honestly.
